Why most diets fail

Let me start by saying… I dislike the word DIET. When most people say they are on a ‘diet’ they are referring to a structured eating program that limits your intake of certain foods & only allows you to eat specifically what is on the ‘diet’ while avoiding ‘forbidden’ foods.

Yes, you should be mindful of what you are eating, focusing on healthy choices, but beating yourself up for choosing a food off your ‘diet’ is not helpful. Poor mindset is just one reason diets fail. But what are some other common reasons?

Only 3% of dieters achieve their weight loss goals for the long term. Let’s look at some of the common mistakes they make. Take note if you can relate to any of these mistakes.

1-     Dieting too fast. Losing too much body fat too fast will activate the starvation survival effects in your body.

2-     Following an unsustainable diet. (Remember the ‘forbidden’ foods mentality I mentioned)

3-     Not tracking. Tracking is a proven strategy for success. Tracking your food intake, exercise, & sleep are vital to keeping you focused on your goals.

4-     No coaching or accountability in place. Starting & maintaining new healthy eating habits can be challenging on your own. It takes time to build these new habits into your life. Coaching & accountability can help set you up for long-term success.

5-     Low-quality sleep. Poor sleep while introducing new healthy eating habits can destroy willpower, create bad mood, or possibly crash your immune system.

You can make good food choices with some guidance & practice. The next time you are thinking about going on a ‘diet’ consider the mistakes I have mentioned here.

Maybe it’s time for a different approach. Building healthy eating habits can be done with some simple strategies.

Get in touch. Let’s do this together.
