Have you ever tried to slide on your favorite pair of jeans & find that they just don't fit like they used to?
If you are a 50+ women in the throws of menopause, you may be struggling with 'menopause hormone belly’.
Why it happens
• Lower estrogen: As estrogen levels decline, your body shifts fat storage from the hips and thighs to the abdomen.
• Metabolic slowdown: Your metabolism naturally slows with age, and a loss of muscle mass further decreases it, making it easier to gain weight and harder to lose.
• Other factors: Decreased physical activity, poor sleep, stress, and genetics also play a significant role in where you store fat.
What you can do about it
• Exercise regularly: Aim for 2-3 times/week. A mix of cardio and strength training is most effective.
• Eat a healthy diet: Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Limit alcohol and added sugars.
• Manage stress: Find time for relaxation techniques to help manage stress. Try yoga, meditation, deep breathing, or walking outside.
• Prioritize sleep: Create a good sleep routine, as poor sleep can disrupt hormones that regulate appetite and fat storage.
