A positive mindset is crucial when embarking on a fitness & health journey. Without a positive mindset we can easily get discouraged & derailed from our health goals.
What are some ways you can improve your mindset & STAY ON TRACK?
Here are a few simple daily strategies to try. These take less than 15 minutes to complete, but the effect can be lasting.
1. JUST BREATHE- mindfully inhaling & exhaling can reduce stress & help with focus. And it can be done anywhere. Try 4x4 breathing… inhale for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4… repeat until you begin to feel calmer & more relaxed.
2. JOURNAL- journaling for just 5-10 minutes in the morning or before bed is proven to help reduce stress & create a more positive outlook. Here are two types of journaling to try: BRAIN DUMP- great for the end of the day. Grab your journal & just start writing- any & everything that comes to mind. Write until you feel complete & relaxed. This is a good way to relieve the stress of the day before bed.
GRATITUDE- this is a great way to start your day! Write ‘I am grateful for…’ statements until your mood begins to elevate. It can be challenging to think about things to be grateful for if you have never done this type of exercise before. Even small things count. ‘I am grateful for my cup of coffee’; ‘I am grateful for the sunshine’; ‘I am grateful for my pet’… etc.
3. GO FOR A WALK- walking is known for clearing your mind & reducing stress. Walking for just 5-10 minutes can be enough to have a positive effect. A great practice is 10-10-10. Walk 10 min before/after breakfast; 10 min before/after lunch; 10 min before/after dinner. It is best to walk outside- fresh air & sunshine add to the health benefits of walking. Though if this is not possible, walking inside is better than no walking!
Next time you are feeling down, stressed, or discouraged, try one of these mindset boosting strategies.
