Healthy Habits Strategy

What if i told you there is an easy way to create a new healthy habit?...


Let me tell you a SECRET that I have learned about instilling new HEALTHY HABITS.

There is a strategy called ‘PAIRING’.


Let me explain… Pairing is a process where you ‘pair’ a new habit that you would like to start doing with an existing habit that you currently do without any effort.


Examples include:

• While brushing your teeth or washing dishes, practice your balance by standing on one foot for 30 seconds, then on the other for 30 seconds.

• While waiting for the coffee to brew do a few stretches to work on your flexibility.

• Do a few squats while waiting for the microwave to heat up your lunch.

These are just a few examples, but you can see how with time & with using the strategy of pairing, you can start to form a new healthy habit.


MY FAVORITE PAIRING has to do with daily hydration. When I take my pup Cherry for a walk, I always take a 20 oz bottle of water with me. My goal is to finish the 20 oz by the time we finish our walk. Easy! And this sets me on track to reach my hydration goal for the day.


FUN FACT: Hydration is a ‘foundation habit’, but more about that another time…


Your HOMEWORK: Think about your daily routine/habits that you currently do. Pick a new habit you want to instill & PAIR IT with an existing habit. Try it out for a few weeks. See how simple this process can be.
